Senior Business Controller Europe & Africa

Your proactive and forward-looking analysis leads to new decision making achieving significant improvement in business results. You achieve this by providing new insights as a Business Controller and acting as sparring partner with various stakeholders. High Tech, High Touch, that is the aim of CFO. We go for automation where FinTech/AI is an important theme, but we also believe that personal impact really makes the difference. Challenge when necessary and contribute with impact! As a Business Controller at Rabobank, you are not just part of it. In fact, that's exactly who you already are.

Practical Examples

  • You thrive on change and see improvements wherever you look; you are driving performance improvements, mostly commercially but also operationally in the bank;
  • You analyse and identify areas in which our MT-members in the Europe & Africa region (Wholesale Banking) can take action to improve top or bottom line results;
  • You raise the bar on quality of reported data by identifying root causes for structural issues in data quality and solve these by teaming up with our colleagues in client support, finance, product control and IT. You know when to zoom in, and when to zoom out;
  • You connect people and give a personal touch to your advice and thereby create impact within and outside the CFO domain.

Top responsibilities

  • You will be driving the performance improvements in the region by working across silos to deliver results. This means creating new insights in growth areas and providing advice on optimizing the triangle risk/return/sustainability. You do this by working closely together with your colleagues in the business control.
  • Cooperating in the process of monthly performance reporting to the management team of Europe & Africa, with your business control team colleagues to ensure we provide insights in relevant trends and advise on possible improvement initiatives.
  • Making sure financial processes run smoothly, by liaising between the nine branches and our finance colleagues in Utrecht, with a key focus on returns (income and regulatory capital). Focus is on identifying structural flaws in the process and resolve them by working with all relevant stakeholders to improve the process.
  • Support in delivering our business growth agenda by being responsible for the regional performance management (KPI) process, also by working closely together with the global performance management team.
  • We strongly believe continuous development is essential for (y)our success. That is why we typically rotate roles and responsibilities in the team after a period.

The Business Control Europe & Africa team is part of the Wholesale Europe & Africa region, reporting to the CFO Europe & Africa and located in Utrecht. This region covers all Wholesale clusters / product lines (Core lending, Structured Lending, Markets, Advisory & Investments), including regional support and the European branch network and with a focus on the Corporate Client franchise and Core lending activities. The Europe & Africa loan book totals over 50bn of assets, driving well over half of Rabobank’s global Wholesale performance.

The team consists of six business controllers who are responsible for managing the financial planning & analysis process in the region. Furthermore it provides analyses, benchmarking, scenario analyses etc. to provide insights and robust challenge that drive the strategy, business decisions and In Control-process of the region. The team is also responsible for controlling the execution of initiatives and projects, the performance on the KPIs and the control of the usage of resources such as costs and capital. Lastly the team supports the business in developing new growth opportunities, for example in the Energy and Food Transitions.

Together we achieve more than alone
