You will be at the center of European banking supervision dynamics and will supervise one of the most systemically important bank in the Netherlands. You will be part of an intercultural team of European supervisors, in a dynamic environment.
You will be part of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) and will work in a Joint Supervisory Team (JST) , a team of supervisors from DNB, the European Central Bank (ECB) and a number of European supervisory authorities. The JST’s task is to assess the prudential risks the bank faces and ascertain that the Supervised Entity is equipped to manage those risks properly.
What exactly does the position entail?
Within the team, you are a member of the JST’s operational risk and data cluster.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- You will specifically focus on risks and risk management and controls in the areas of e.g. data management and quality, business processes, conduct, compliance, legal, products and business practices as well as on operational risks in other risk areas such as credit and market risk.
- You will address operational risks that are out of appetite and identify relevant emerging risk drivers such as Fintech, climate change and macro-economic trends.
- You will participate in risk assessments, recommend risk mitigation actions and monitor the bank’s follow up.
- You will design strategies to influence the bank to reduce its risks and strengthen weaknesses in its operational risk and data management frameworks.
- You will have regular meetings with the bank’s (senior) management to discuss, among other things, the bank’s adherence to its operational risk framework and to communicate the outcome of your assessments and recommendations.
- You will share your findings with your colleagues from the JST and/or within DNB through (written) analyses or presentations to allow banks’ risk profiles to be assessed consistently and facilitate decision-making about necessary supervisory measures to be taken.
This is where you will be working
As a supervisor focusing on operational risk and data management you will be based at DNB in Amsterdam. DNB is part of the European Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) .
You will work in the DNB Division that is tasked with supervising all Dutch Significant Institutions. Your team is tasked with the supervision of one of the largest banks in the Netherlands. The JST consists of around 45 professionals, of which one third is based in Amsterdam, with various nationalities and backgrounds including legal, economics, finance and accounting. Working for the SSM means that you will have to occasionally travel abroad (e.g. to the ECB in Frankfurt) for training, on-site inspections and other activities.

You therefore should have highly effective powers of persuasion, you are good at maintaining professional relationships and have a clear communication style. You always remain critical, keep asking questions and can hold your ground in difficult discussions. Above all, you are a team player: you are at ease with sharing your knowledge and findings with your colleagues so as to ensure your team can perform better.
What else are we looking for?
- You hold a Master’s degree in a relevant area, with a preference for a quantitative background (e.g. Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics, Data Science etc.);
- You are a professional with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience preferably gained in the field of operational risk and data;
- You are able to understand complex issues and identify and summarize the results of your assessment in formal writing in English;
- You have knowledge of banking processes and you understand the underlying challenges banks are facing in this risk area.
- You are a knowledgeable sparring partner for your various stakeholders. You communicate clearly and you are at ease in a multicultural environment;
- You have experience in setting priorities and working under time pressure;
- You have an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of the Dutch language, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages . If you have no command of Dutch yet, you are willing to learn the language.

The other excellent terms and conditions of employment for this position are:
- A salary of at least € 3.900.-- and a maximum of € 6.500.-- gross per month, which amounts to a gross annual salary of at least € 58.000,-- and a maximum of € 95.000.--, based on a 36-hour working week (including 13th month and holiday allowance). The final salary depends, among other things, on your expertise and experience.
- Free choose when you want your 13th month, 8% holiday allowance calculated over 13 months and a freely disposable personal budget of 5.9% of your 12-month salary to be paid out.Your pension entitlements will accrue under a career-average scheme including provisional indexation, with a 6.83% employee contribution.
- Full reimbursement of your public transport costs for commuting ór reimbursement of your costs with your own transport, at € 0.23 per km. It is possible to travel 1st class. A personal contribution of € 25 per month applies for this.
- An internet allowance of € 50 net per month.
