Working for the Dutch central bank, you will have an impact on financial stability and on the banking sector´s ability to support sustainable growth. You will be at the centre of European banking supervision dynamics and will supervise one of the systemically important banks in The Netherlands. You will be part of an multicultural team of European supervisors, in an ever-evolving financial environment. With your expertise, you will ensure banks manage and control credit risk.
You will work within the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), where together with your international colleagues from the European Central Bank (ECB), you will supervise a Dutch systemically important bank. As such, you will be part of the ECB Joint Supervisory Team (JST) for that bank. Within the JST, you will be one of the specialists in credit risk.
What exactly does the position entail?
- You will monitor credit risk, by assessing risk reports and various other sources, identifying trends that could result in the emergence of new risks.
- You will participate in risk assessments, recommend risk mitigating actions and monitor the bank’s follow-up.
- You will have discussions with the bank's (senior) management and other staff members. You will challenge and probe your counterpart in order to identify and understand the underlying challenges.
- You will design strategies and actions to reduce risks and to strengthen identified weaknesses in the institution’s risk management framework.
- You will keep up to date with regulatory developments and verify the bank's compliance with regulation and supervisory expectations
- You will identify new risks even before they materialise, by thinking ahead of the curve and outside of the box.
- You will share your findings with your colleagues from the JST and/or within DNB through (written) analyses or presentations to facilitate decision-making about supervisory measures to be taken.
Your work environment
As a credit risk specialist, you will be based in Amsterdam. DNB is part of the SSM, through which the ECB is ultimately responsible for supervision of all euro area banks. The ECB directly supervises the largest European Significant Institutions. Working for the SSM means that you will regularly travel abroad (e.g. to the ECB in Frankfurt) for meetings, training, on-site inspections and other activities. This will be an essential part of the job, together with an environment that offers you a good work-life balance. You will be part of a multinational and multicultural team. Your colleagues have diverse backgrounds such as economists, legal experts, certified auditors, econometricians and IT specialists. The atmosphere is open, informal and amicable, and everybody understands the importance of cooperation and teamwork.
At DNB we work in a hybrid manner. Our office in Amsterdam is our home base, the place where we meet, where we share knowledge and work (together). The starting point is that you spend at least half of your weekly working hours at the office or at a supervised institution. At the same time, there is also plenty of room to choose a workplace and -time where we can do our work best and where we can add as much value as possible. And of course we ensure that you can also work excellently at home with a laptop, telephone and a good home workplace design.
Your profile
At DNB you will be working together with dedicated professionals. You need to be decisive and have strong analytical skills. You therefore should have highly effective powers of persuasion, you are comfortable with backing up your claims analytically, you are good at maintaining professional relationships and have a clear communication style. You always remain critical and respectful, you keep asking questions and can hold your ground in difficult discussions. Above all, you are a team player: you are at ease with sharing your knowledge and findings with your colleagues so your team can perform better.
What else are we looking for?
- You hold a Master’s degree in a relevant area, with a preference for a quantitative background (e.g. economics, econometrics, finance etc.).
- You have more than 5 years of professional experience in the field of credit risk and/or banking supervision. Profound knowledge of leveraged finance is a plus.
- You are a knowledgeable sparring partner for your various stakeholders and are at ease in a multicultural environment.
- You have experience in setting priorities and working under time pressure.
- You have an excellent command of English and willingness to learn Dutch.

You will initially be working on a one-year contract, with the prospect of an extension, provided you have performed well and our organisation has not undergone any changes that affect your job.
The other excellent terms and conditions of employment for this position are:
- A salary of at least € 4.500.-- and a maximum of € 7.500.-- gross per month, which amounts to a gross annual salary of at least € 67.000,-- and a maximum of € 111.000.--, based on a 36-hour working week (including 13th month, personal budget and holiday allowance). The final salary depends, among other things, on your expertise and experience.
- Free choose when you want your 13th month, 8% holiday allowance calculated over 13 months and a freely disposable personal budget of 5.9% of your 12-month salary to be paid out.
- Your pension entitlements will accrue under a career-average scheme including provisional indexation, with a 6.83% employee contribution. (from 2025 6,98%).
- Full reimbursement of your public transport costs for commuting ór reimbursement of your costs with your own transport, at € 0.23 per km. It is possible to travel 1st class. A personal contribution of € 25 per month applies for this.
- An internet allowance of € 50 net per month.
