Rabobank is looking for a senior Database Engineer, with proven experience in working in complex environments, who is primarily responsible for delivering Database Services to multiple internal stakeholders. Our Database Services focuses on both on premises and cloud platforms, and includes operational responsibility for databases of business critical applications.

You and your job

As senior Database Engineer you are part of Squad FCTB (Fast and Close To Brilliant), delivering Database Services. This squad is part of Area DMT (Data Modernization and Transformation) within tribe DAPT (Data and Analytics Products and Transformation). You provide technical expertise for Oracle and cloud database systems and solutions. By doing so you identify solutions and improve the quality of service while providing support to application teams using these databases.

You participate in the development and maintenance of strategic, architectural and tactical plans for the database and data warehouse environments; be conversant with, and cognizant of, the future direction of systems, how that direction impacts the company and how future and current database systems can be exploited for the company’s benefit.

We work according to Agile principles. As part of the FCTB team you work in 2 week sprints, facilitated by a scrum master. Primary goal is to deliver, optimize and extend Database Services, based on customer demand and organisation strategy. Delivering 24/7 support is part of the job.

Within the CITO division Engineering & Data Tech, the domain Tech4D&A is the main driver behind the data driven objectives, and enabler of the most strategic objectives of Rabobank. The objectives of Tech4D&A are:

• Delivery of platforms and standardised services, these have a Rabobank wide impact;
• Set up of sustainable and standardised data and analytics products;
• Maintenance of data warehousing and database environments for corporate purposes;
• Setting standards, way of working and other deliverables for building the data driven together with the tribe DAPT.

You and your talent

The senior Database Engineer we are looking for is a technical expert and a people-oriented collaborator. You are customer-oriented and are responsible for providing overarching database expertise and support for the application teams in our domain. The ideal candidate would have the following skills and expertise (but if you are getting close to this, we want to get to know you as well):

• Over 10 years of hands-on experience in mission critical, high-available and large complex environments .
• T-shaped professional who combines the database specializations with the capability of  supporting the team in other areas (automation, development, testing).
• Affinity and experience in design, collecting requirements and formulating solutions.
• Experience in managing production environments on Oracle 19c databases.
• Experienced on AWS and/or Azure with PostgreSQL, MS SQL, NoSQL databases.
• Experience with the concept “infrastructure as code”. It is the basis of our cloud offerings.
• Experience working with CI/CD tooling and automation (Git, Azure DevOps, Splunk, Ansible).
• Experience working with data warehouses and high volume OLTP.
• Expertise in performance tuning of databases and queries.
• Managing high availability environments and testing.
• Proficient in scripting and comfortable with scripting languages like PL/SQL, Bash, Python, YAML.
• HBO / WO level of thinking and acting.
