At a glance

Are you socially aware as well as curious and inquisitive? Do you have the desire to work in the largest dealing room in continental Europe and in a dynamic and challenging environment? An internship within the Markets track of ABN AMRO’s Corporate Banking Division may be the perfect fit for you. Located at the Zuid-as in Amsterdam, you’ll support a desk and find the best deals for your clients and guide them in the complex world of financial products that is dynamic as well as rapidly evolving. You will develop an invaluable professional and financial skill-set and build an extensive professional network, whilst enjoying our open culture and international working environment.

Your working environment

Markets is the heart of Corporate Banking and supports clients with the purchase and sale of (complex) financial products - for example, stocks, bonds, fixed-income, currency and structured products. Our clients vary from Private Banking to (Large) Corporate Clients, Public Sector and Financial Institutions. We carry out transactions for them from our dealing rooms in Amsterdam (where you will be located), Frankfurt, London and Paris.

Working at ABN AMRO means becoming even better at what you do. We understand clients, translate their ambitions into joint success and earn their trust. We want our clients to understand our products. That is why we sometimes even say 'no' if the risk attached to a product is too big for the client. Serving the client's interests is also a question of offering and communicating a transparent range of products. Banking is our business, the world is our challenge.

Possible internship assignments

An internship within the ABN AMRO Markets franchise provides the opportunity to prove yourself in a challenging working environment. As Markets offers a broad range of products across different desks, our Markets internship team will provide support to find the most suitable desk for you to ensure the best match with your interests and capabilities. The Markets department includes the following desks which are looking for interns:

· Debt Capital Markets – Secured Debt (DCM):

The Secured Debt team focuses on arranging and placing the more structured and bespoke Debt Capital Markets products across a great variety of sectors. Therefore, you can expect that you will deepen understanding of securitisations, large portfolio transactions, Real Estate deals and Private Placements. Did you know that ABN AMRO is ranked #3 of all European banks when it comes to issuing Private Placements?

In this team you will find the perfect combination of financial modelling, client interaction and process management. You will get understanding of the key elements of structuring and executing transactions and active participation in these discussions is highly encouraged. During the internship there is plenty of time and opportunity to learn more about the different teams within the debt chain as well as the other teams within the Global Markets division, like Trading and Sales.

Responsibilities include participating in deal execution, contributing to pitches for respective products, financial modelling, data collection, process management and analysing transactions and regulations.

An internship at the DCM Secured Debt provides the opportunity to work at the heart of financial markets. You will be challenged, but also rewarded with lots of responsibilities, actual contribution and a great team culture.

· Institutional FID Sales:

FID Sales team covers a broad range of client base across many different regions. Among these clients are the biggest and most well known financial institutions in the world. FID Sales team interacts on a daily basis and is linking the pin between the clients and other internal departments (Trading, Research, DCM, etc).

You will develop your own view on the fixed income market and learn to express and share these views in a professional way. Besides that, you will have a chance to generate data insights and present them. You will get the understanding how the value chain works together from origination of a fixed income product to bringing it to the market. And you will have the opportunity to expand your network across the entire fixed income chain and the supporting desks.

Your responsibilities will include supporting the FID Sales team with various tasks with the help of data mining and dashboarding.

· Corporate FID Sales:

Corporate Fixed Income & Derivatives (FID) facilitates corporate clients with their hedging needs to mitigate their exposures to fluctuating Interest Rates. To manage any type of exposure, the team’s product offering mainly focuses on tailor-made interest rate derivatives including but not limited to swaps, caps, floors and swaptions. The team has a strong sector-based client focus, resulting in specialized knowledge and coverage of every corporate sector portfolio of the bank including Shipping, Energy, Telecom, Retail, Real Estate, Manufacturing etc.

Corporate FID Sales is responsible for the entire deal process: i.e. deal origination, documentation, pricing and execution. Close collaboration with the bank’s lending department, risk function and various trading desks is part of our daily job.

During your internship you will develop both your commercial and technical skills, by engaging and supporting a broad range of projects and initiatives across different client groups and products. You will have the opportunity to improve your knowledge of derivatives, learn more about our sales & trading activities and get a better understanding of financial markets as a whole.

Your responsibility will be to support the team with setting-up various client engagement initiatives, such as organizing client events. Some of these events have a rather technical nature, related to developments in Financial Markets, Macro Research and the USD Libor reform. Furthermore, you will participate in various projects on the desk related to business development and searching for pockets of growth. Also updating and preparing client pitch material including PowerPoint presentations for internal and external clients will be part of your job.

You have the ability to understand complex things, have a keen eye for promising developments in the market and have business empathy.
