At a glance

The Sustainability Expertise Team is in search of a leader with a business and people-oriented approach. Your expertise in sustainability is vital and you have the capacity to foster relationships between different stakeholders. Also, you will contribute significantly to embedding sustainability into our Corporate Bank's core values.

You will focus on leading a growing team of sustainability experts. This team will actualize the bank's environmental objectives within the Corporate Bank. Particular attention will be given to Corporate & Institutional Clients ('CIC'). These clients receive services from both our head office and several other branches (Frankfurt, London, Brussels, Oslo, and Athens). The team activities range from having strategic and commercial dialogues with our clients on sustainability, identifying and executing financing transactions that support our clients in their transition to sustainable business models as well as to support coverage bankers in sustainability risk due diligence processes.

You will be leading a small but growing team of sustainability experts based in The Netherlands and with representatives in UK and Germany within the Sustainability Expertise team. You will work closely with colleagues from various departments within the bank (Client Coverage, Financing Solutions, Risk, Sustainability Centre of Excellence).

Your job

  • As the sustainability expert, you and your team members contribute to client pitches and lead the execution of sustainability linked transactions; you advise clients on suitable sustainability KPIs and targets and interact with other lenders on the relevance and ambition of the agreed sustainability KPIs;
  • Your team identifies knowledge and information needs with front office staff and you develop and implement a plan to discuss these. With your team you develop a view on the transition needs, targets and possibilities and you align these with front office staff and 2nd line stakeholders;
  • You support the implementation of the sustainability risk strategy and policies of the bank; you aid in developing sustainability tools and guidelines. The aim is to help the business in adhering to the bank's internal and external commitments towards sustainability.
  • You offer expert advice to the Sustainability Expertise team. Also, you aid change and implementation managers focusing on meeting growing data demands from a strategic and regulatory perspective. Furthermore, your assistance ensures changes are implemented in an inspirational manner. This approach aligns with client-focused working methods. Importantly, it also fulfils regulatory requirements.
  • Together with the team members, you pro-actively review and provide input on the sustainability strategy and risk appetite of the Corporate Bank; working with your colleagues from Client Coverage and Financing Solutions, you discern what is necessary for successful client transition support. Regular interactions with your colleagues in Credit Risk and Central Risk are a norm for you. These dialogues aim to maintain efficient internal processes that are well-aligned.

Working environment

You will be part of the CB Sustainability Expertise department and its Management Team and will be leading a team dedicated to implementing the bank’s sustainability ambition in CIC client sectors. The department prioritises both steering and promoting sustainability-focused dialogues with clients and internal stakeholders. This is done by expanding the Sustainable Finance Portfolio, which encompasses Sustainability-Linked and Green Loans. Furthermore, it inspires and enhances the knowledge of our internal stakeholders. The department also cultivates proficiency in pertinent sustainability topics and initiatives. This includes understanding the EU Sustainable Finance Regulations.

The position also involves the department’s external engagement with partners/joint lead banks in high-profile international (syndicated) loan transactions.

Your profile

  • You have a strong focus on working and interacting with (international) clients
  • Master’s Degree in Economics , (Sustainable) Finance, Law, Environmental Resource Management or comparable level;
  • You have good knowledge of sustainability risk and regulations, sustainable finance, banking products, financial institutions and risk management and a 10-15 years working experience in a banking environment
  • Proven experience and interest in sustainability and in leading and executing sustainability linked transactions
  • Experience with interacting with (international) clients and various stakeholders, senior client representative and senior management.
  • Experience with managing a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • You are proactive and hands-on. A networker and team player, while also able to work independently, enthusiastic and solution driven.
